Signs You’re Meant to Be a Fashion Designer

Skill can be acquired by anyone but there are people born to lead in different spheres of life. When you discover your place, you will not struggle to excel or to stand out from the crowd.

You know you're destined to be a fashion designer if you find yourself always doing most of the following;

If you see design in everything and you just can’t stop your mind from unearthing lessons, ideas, and solutions through the things you see and experience.

If you spent most of your childhood making clothes for your Barbie dolls instead of playing with your friends.

If you always catch yourself studying design in things other people don’t think is possible.
If you are a good student of fashion magazines instead of your school books.

If you probably ran a boutique out of your basement at age twelve.

In other words: if you want to be the next Dr. LegendClothing, it helps to be completely and utterly obsessed with fashion.

What Makes A Good Fashion Designer In Nigeria

The fashion industry is exploding and becoming more intense than it has ever been in the history of fashion. However, there is no rule that says if you don’t have a formal education or certification, you can’t become a successful fashion designer in Nigeria, but that doesn't make the feat any easier.

To become a good fashion designer in Nigeria, you will need to have a combination of drawing, sewing, and design skills, knowledge of the fashion industry, and unparalleled perseverance. You'll also need to create a strong fashion portfolio and strengthen your knowledge of business and finance in general.

Learn more.
If you can, it makes good sense to get a diploma or degree in fashion design or a related program.
Another way you can learn is by giving yourself to be trained by a fashion designer who has conquered the industry, either as a formal apprenticeship or internship program.

Enhance your skills. Successful fashion designers have a wide array of skills, including drawing, an eye for color and texture, an ability to visualize concepts in three dimensions, and the mechanical skills involved in sewing and cutting all types of fabrics.

Decide which designing field is your principal interest. You may need to start at the bottom but you do need to have some goals in mind as to the type of designing you want to undertake lifelong.

These Fashion Rules Have Been Broken By Every Nigerian Fashion Designer

If there's one thing that fashion's pretty famous for, it's the long list of supposed dos and don'ts. Never wear with this. Ditch the horizontal stripes. Make sure everything matches perfectly. It can be stressful, to say the least, sucking the fun out of expressions.
Fashion rules are meant to be followed and taken seriously, but there are always exemptions because, rules are made for people and not people for rule.

A lot of these rules have been broken by every Nigerian Fashion Designer

Don’t mix different prints and patterns. Wearing patterns within the same color palette, but of different sizes is the perfect way to show people you’re fashionable. It can also look extremely fresh, and elevate your look from ordinary to street-style ready in no time
Don’t wear black and blue together. Most people are too scared to wear this color-combo, guaranteeing you’ll stand out from the crowd if you try it, but not fashion designers in Nigeria
Don’t wear heels if you’re tall. This mandate isn't only silly, but a little sexist, too. Stemming from a whole bunch of antiquated notions including abundant height isn't feminine, and a woman shouldn't draw extra attention to herself, this rule is one no woman should ever follow if they don’t want to. We know plenty of women who are almost six feet tall and still rock three-inch heels with grace (and we’re jealous.) and heels are graciously transformative and completely change the way you carry yourself.
Don’t match your shoes and your handbag. Matching both actually makes you look put together with minimal effort.
Dress for the job you want, not the job you have. If your job doesn't require you to wear a suit every day, don’t. Feel free to show your personality!
Wear what makes you feel awesome!

Fashion Advice for Guys

Young men are the future leaders of society, and dressing sharp is the first step towards becoming professional in your sphere. A lot of young men are starting their professional lives without a clue as to how to dress. This needs to change

Clearly, clothes may not make the man, but the right clothing can give a young man precious seconds to make his case and influence people.

Let’s get few fashionable advices for guys

Bad Fit Is An Epidemic: Crisp, clean, and well fitted clothing encourages others to take you more seriously. The most basic improvement you can make in your style is to make sure everything fits impeccably. What you wear should almost hug the shape of your body; without being tight.

Have at Least One Good Suit in the Closet:  No matter what your job is, you’re going to need a decent suit at some point.

Build from White, Blue and Black Shirts: White, black and light blue shirts are the backbone to a sharp wardrobe.  This is basically because these colors make approximately 90% of the shirts sold anywhere. Either of these colors looks good on most skin tone and body types as well.

Take Care of Your Clothing: Being young means having less money to throw around.  If you've strained out for a few pieces of good, quality clothing - a made to measure suit, a pair of expensive dress shoes, well sewn native senator wear, or native casual wears made by one of the professional fashion designers we have in Nigeria, or what have you, it’s worth a few bucks more to keep the clothes in good shape.

Never stay Under-dressed: Yeah right! Don’t overdo it, but dare to take some risks. It’s always better to be a little bit overdressed than under-dressed in any setting. All you have to do is think about where and who you’re going to be with and just step it up one bit. But make sure you’re not better dressed than someone who is more important in a certain setting.

Disregard trends: Beware of buying something just because it’s in vogue, stick to what you truly like.

Never underestimate the power of details: The last thing on is usually the first thing noticed.

Continually cultivate your image: Invest more time and money into your image. Cultivate your fashion sense. Your style is a huge mode of communication, and is worth caring for as much as your education, career, and relationships.

Easy Ways of Staying Attractive With Your Dressing

Looking attractive begins with developing an everyday routine to maintain the health of your skin, hair, smile, and overall body, and radiate confidence through your posture and body language.

Wear clean clothes that fit you well.
As they say, the clothes make the man! You don't have to wear expensive items to be attractive, but your clothing can communicate a lot about you.

Always dress well. Yes, every single morning! Even when dressing casually for an ordinary day, don't just throw on whatever you have lying around. Select clothes that match and that suit what you'll be doing.

Develop friendship with a good fashion designer; this is important when you want to buy clothes or sew new clothes. You probably can't tell what looks good on you, what celebrities have modeled to become the in-thing, may not be a good fit for you. But, because the primary focus of a good fashion designer is clothes and how best it can be used, he will guide you to make a perfect choice.

Wear clothes that fit well. It’s not the amount of clothes that gives the fitting every guy aspires, less expensive clothes that fit look much better than expensive clothes that don't!
Don't try to hide your body. Whether you're embarrassed about being too large or too skinny, trying to cover it up with baggy clothing only makes you look worse.

Get rid of old clothes. You might love that old T-shirt from college, but it probably doesn't fit well anymore. Clothes and your body change size and shape over time. Even if they still fit, clothes that are more than two or three years old are probably starting to look tired or out of fashion.

Figure out which colors look good on you. The right color will make your skin look awesome, while the wrong one can make it look washed out and sallow.

Stock your wardrobe with timeless basics. These pieces shouldn't fall out of style too quickly, and they should be made of quality materials that will last a few years. Pick up items such as black native casual, black native senator wears, shirts these will remain timeless in Nigeria but we have a few fashion designers in Nigeria who can make native casual or native senator wears with perfect fit and finishing. Check the likes of Mudi Africa, Dr. Legendclothing Yomi Casuals and a few others. You'll always be able to put together a presentable outfit from these places.

Do laundry regularly. Some items of clothing can stand to go through several wears before they're dirty such as suits, jackets or pants, but shirts, underwear, and socks can only stand one wear before they need to be washed. Set up a regular schedule for doing laundry so that you don't spend the morning scrambling for something clean.
